Renault Mégane radio code: unlock your radio per generation
The Renault Mégane is one of Europe's most popular family cars. When the display shows CODE after a battery change or power cut, you need the Renault Mégane radio code. This guide explains how to retrieve it for every Mégane generation.
Which Mégane do you have?
The method differs slightly per generation. The Mégane comes in four generations:
- Mégane I (1996-2002) — Philips or Tuner List radio
- Mégane II (2002-2009) — Tuner List or Cabasse radio
- Mégane III (2008-2016) — Update List or Carminat TomTom
- Mégane IV (2016-present) — R-Link 2 or Easy Link
Find the PRE-code for your Mégane
The Renault Mégane radio code is calculated from the PRE-code, which consists of 1 letter and 3 digits.
Via the display (recommended)
- Switch on the ignition so the radio gets power.
- The display shows
CODE. - Press and hold buttons 1 and 5 (Mégane I/II) or 1 and 6 (Mégane III/IV) together.
- Write down the PRE-code that appears on the screen.
Via the label on the radio
Remove the radio with the correct extraction keys and read the PRE-code from the sticker on the housing. This is needed if the display method does not work on your specific radio.
Retrieve and enter the code
- Go to the Renault page and enter the PRE-code.
- You receive the four-digit Mégane radio code instantly.
- Enter the code using the preset buttons (1 to 4 for the digits, button 6 to confirm).
Common Mégane issues
- Carminat TomTom: on this navigation system the PRE-code method sometimes fails. Use the serial number from the label instead.
- R-Link system: newer Mégane IV models with R-Link sometimes have no traditional radio code but a link via MyRenault.
- WAIT message: wait at least 30 minutes with the ignition on before trying again.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Mégane Scénic use the same radio codes?
The Scénic is based on the Mégane platform and uses the same radio systems, so the PRE-code method also works for the Scénic.
My Mégane shows no PRE-code when pressing 1+5. What now?
Try the combination 1+6. On Mégane III and IV this is often the correct combination. Still nothing? Then you need to remove the radio.
Can I get the Renault Mégane radio code at the dealer?
Yes, but the dealer usually charges £30-£60. Through our service it is faster and cheaper.
