Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about Renault and Dacia radio codes
The PRE code is a unique identification code that Renault (and Dacia) uses to calculate the radio code. This code is on a sticker in your car — almost always behind the glove box or on the back of the radio after removal. The code consists of letters and digits, typically 7 to 12 characters long.
On average within 60 seconds after successful payment you will receive the radio code by email. The system calculates the code fully automatically. In practice it is often faster.
If the code does not work, you are entitled to a full refund. You can also contact us via our contact page — we will check the PRE code and send a corrected code if necessary. Our guarantee always applies: correct code or money back.
Yes, Dacia is a subsidiary brand of Renault and uses exactly the same PRE code system. The code request procedure is identical for both brands. We support all common Renault and Dacia models from the period 1997–2020.
Turn on the ignition. The radio shows "CODE" or "—- —-". Use preset buttons 1 to 4 to set each digit. Pressing each button repeatedly increases the digit. Confirm the full four-digit code with the MODE, OK or confirmation button. On Media Nav or Carminat touchscreen systems, enter the code via the touchscreen.
After three incorrect attempts most Renault radios lock themselves for 1 hour. Leave the car running or keep the ignition in the "ON" position until the blocking time has elapsed. Do not switch the ignition off again or the waiting time will restart. Then enter the correct code.
No, the code is permanently linked to your specific radio and never changes. After any power interruption (disconnecting the battery, flat battery) you can enter the same code again. So keep the code in a safe place.
Very early models (before 1997) with a separate Blaupunkt or Philips radio do not have a PRE code system. Newer models with R-Link 2 (Megane IV, Kadjar) are VIN-linked and no longer need a traditional radio code. The Renault Clio I (before 1998) with Blaupunkt radio is also outside the system.
Yes, the PRE code is linked to the radio unit, not to the owner. Any owner can request the radio code via the PRE code sticker in the car. You do not need proof of ownership or any other document.
Update List is the simple radio with physical buttons and a small display, found in most Renault and Dacia models from 1997–2015. Media Nav is a touchscreen navigation system with a larger display. Carminat (and Carminat TomTom) is an older, integrated navigation system found in the Laguna, Scenic and Megane. All three use the PRE code system for security codes.
Yes, we process payments via Stripe, a certified payment provider that uses industry-standard SSL encryption. Your payment details are never stored on our servers. You can pay by credit card and other common methods.
If the sticker in the glove box is not legible, remove the radio using DIN removal keys (radio removal keys). You can find these tools at a car accessories shop for a few euros. The back of the radio always has a sticker with the PRE code and serial number. This works for virtually all Renault and Dacia models.
Absolutely. The PRE code is valid regardless of ownership. Many customers are people who have bought a second-hand Renault or Dacia where the radio code was not provided or has been lost.
Yes, our service is available 24/7 via the internet, also from abroad. As long as you can read the PRE code and have internet access, you can use the service. This is especially handy if you get a flat battery on holiday.
Contact us via our contact page. We can calculate a code for most Renault and Dacia models with the PRE code system, even if the model is not specifically listed. Include the brand, model, year and PRE code in your message.
