Renault Tuner List Radio Code Guide
The Tuner List is the classic Renault cassette/CD radio of the late 1990s and 2000s — standard in the Clio II, Kangoo, Twingo I, Megane I and early Trafic. Its big advantage over almost every other locked radio: you do not need to remove it. The unit can display its own PRE-code, and from that PRE-code the unlock code is calculated instantly.
Getting the PRE-code on the display
- Switch on the ignition — the display shows CODE.
- Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 together.
- After a few seconds the display shows the PRE-code: one letter followed by three digits, e.g. T186 or V873.
- On some units the combination is 1 + 5 — try that if 1+6 does nothing.
Enter that PRE-code on our Renault radio code page and the 4-digit unlock code is calculated immediately — no dealer, no removal, no waiting.
Entering the unlock code
- The display shows 0000 after pressing preset 1.
- Preset 1 raises the first digit, preset 2 the second, presets 3 and 4 the rest.
- Press and hold preset 6 to confirm. The radio starts immediately.
Which cars have a Tuner List?
- Clio II (1998–2005)
- Twingo I (1998–2007)
- Kangoo I (1998–2008)
- Megane I and early Megane II (1999–2005)
- Trafic II (2001–2006)
The later Update List looks similar but has a CD slot and a two-line display — the PRE-code method is identical.
Frequently asked questions
The display stays empty when I hold 1 and 6. What now?
First make sure the display actually shows CODE (ignition on). Try 1+5. On a handful of early units the display method is disabled — then the PRE-code is on the sticker on the radio body, readable after removal with two DIN keys.
Is the PRE-code the same as the radio code?
No. The PRE-code (letter + three digits) identifies the unit; the radio code (four digits) unlocks it. We calculate the second from the first.
How many attempts do I have?
After a wrong code the waiting time doubles with each attempt. There is no hard lock, but after several errors you can be waiting a long time — enter the calculated code carefully in one go.
