Renault Megane radiocode
The Renault Megane has had a wide variety of radio equipment over the years, from the simple Tuner List in the early Megane II to the advanced R-Link 2 navigation system in the Megane IV. The Megane II and III request a four-digit radio code via the PRE-code system when power is interrupted. On the Megane III with Carminat navigation system, the PRE-code is in a different format. The Megane IV with R-Link 2 no longer requires a traditional radio code — this system is linked to the VIN number and does not lock upon power loss.

Where do I find the PRE code in my Megane?
On the Renault Megane II, you will find the PRE-code on a sticker behind the glove compartment or on the back of the radio after removal. On the Megane III, also check behind the glove compartment; some vehicles have the sticker inside the boot lid or in the spare wheel compartment. For the Megane III Carminat navigation, the PRE-code is longer and usually starts with "PC" or a sequence of letters. Remove the Megane radio with two DIN extraction tools in the corner slots on the left and right of the display.
Useful tips for the Megane
- On the Megane III with Update List, the PRE-code is almost always on a sticker at the bottom right of the glove compartment.
- The Megane IV with R-Link 2 does not request a code on battery reset — the lock is linked to the VIN number.
- Some Megane III Carminat TomTom navigation systems request a special recovery combination after power loss; contact us if in doubt.
- When removing the Megane II radio, be careful with the connection cables behind the unit — never pull on the cables themselves.

Frequently asked questions about the Megane radio code
No, the Megane IV (2015 and later) with R-Link 2 system no longer has a traditional four-digit radio code. The system automatically recognises the vehicle via the VIN number and does not lock upon power loss.
On the Megane II, the PRE-code sticker is almost always behind the glove compartment, to the right of the driver. Open the compartment and look at the back wall. The code is a combination of 7–10 characters starting with a letter followed by numbers.
After three wrong attempts, the radio locks and shows "WAIT" or a wait time. On most Megane III models, this takes 60 minutes with the ignition on. Do not switch off the ignition again before the time has elapsed.
The radio code cannot be looked up via the VIN number or registration alone — the specific PRE-code of your radio is always required. The PRE-code is unique per device and is on the radio or in the car.
Yes, the radio code is permanently linked to the specific radio device and never changes. You can always use the same code again, regardless of how many times the radio has been reset or the battery removed.
